Bas Masteling
Physiotherapist
Dutch & English
Bas works with a wide range of people, from dedicated athletes to those dealing with pain in their back, hips, knees, ankles, muscles, and tendons. His goal is to help people move freely, safely, and without pain. “Movement is essential. When you stop moving, your body stiffens. And when you move out of balance, discomfort follows. That’s why I encourage everyone to stay active, live healthily, and get outdoors. It does you a world of good.”
Relieving pain
As a physiotherapist, Bas treats many people with acute or long-standing pain. He uses a variety of techniques depending on what the body needs. “I always start by understanding where the issue comes from. I assess movement patterns and run specific tests. From there, treatment can include targeted exercises, joint mobilisations, taping, stretching, massage, and often dry needling. With a fine needle, I can release tension in a muscle, it’s incredibly effective. Sometimes people feel 75% better after just one session.”
The physiotherapist for sports-related complaints
A passionate athlete himself, running track, climbing, and mountain biking, Bas knows exactly how frustrating an injury can be. “I understand what people are going through and the desire to keep pushing, even with pain. That’s why I always try to find a way for someone to stay active safely. I listen to their story, look at how they move, and assess their capacity. My advice can range from choosing a different pair of shoes to adjusting their training plan.”
Collaboration with other health professionals
Bas aims for the best possible results, and that often means working together with other experts. He regularly collaborates with the chiropractors at Solar Chiropractic, exercise physiologist Melvin Kantebeen from Contest, and medical biologist and Health Consultant Gallieth Haaker from Gezond Gesprek. “Some people struggle with issues that aren’t fully understood in the conventional medical system. It can be incredibly helpful to look at health from a different angle, for example, how nutrition or exercise influences your wellbeing.”
Everyone is an athlete
Some people assume Bas only works with professional athletes, but that isn’t the case. “I often see strong runners and cyclists, it just happened that way, and I’m honoured they recommend me within their networks. But to me, everyone is an athlete. If you’re moving your body and pushing yourself to grow, you’re performing at your highest level. And I’m here to help you do that in a healthy way and without pain.”
